Transport

Both St Germans and Hayle have good train services and having retained almost all its branch lines, there aren't many things that can't be done in Cornwall by train and bus .

We are fortunate to have good value off peak rail fares in Cornwall and Devon and there are also several rover type tickets available to make a car free holiday a better option for the wallet as well as the planet and the soul! The excellent Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership site lists them along with a lot of other useful information and links.

A favourite page of ours for train information is Realtime Trains. Use the search tool to choose whether you see simple (stopping trains) or detailed (all workings). The default is to show trains within an hour, but you can set the search to all day.

A final top tip is that most map apps on your phone will offer a public transport directions option, and this can be a quick and easy way of finding the information you need - although they are not always failsafe, so there may be more options than the ones listed.

Trains

St Germans Rail Users Group produce a timetable of all trains calling at St Germans

Great Scenic Railways - The website of Cornwall and Devon Rail Partnership. A really good site for all things train travel related; from planning days out without the car to up to date information on the rail passes available.

Traveline - (0870 608 2 608) - very good public transport information service

Train timetable for Cornwall - Due to continued train strikes the timetable can change; we will endeavour to keep this up to date but check the GWR website listed above for the latest.

Great Western Railway - Home page of Cornwalls main train operator. Train times and fares, book tickets, live departure boards etc.

Live Departure Board - Hayle - Real time train departure information for Hayle.

Live Departure Board - St Germans - Real time train departure information for St Germans.

National Rail - Train times, prices and bookings. The National Rail phone app is really good and it's free from the App Store etc. You can plan journeys, get fares, track whether your train is on time and even set an alarm so that you don't miss your stop. Living where we do we can vouch for this last feature being useful as we have had to help out several bleary eyed travellers over the years!

The Train Line - another good place to find the best trains for your journey.

The Man in Seat 61 - No holiday planning would be complete without losing an hour or ten on this site. Mark Smith is a genius on the subject of up to date travel information - is there nothing this man does not know? If in doubt, refer to this site!

Buses

Plymouth Citybus run buses through Tideford which is within St Germans Parish. Services operate in both directions, to Liskeard or Plymouth. Its worth checking before travel. Up until December 2024 single fares will be £2.00 for any distance!
